Tax Calendar continued

31 JULY - Deadline for filing appeals of exemption or classification denials (or 30 days following the mailing of such denials). This also is the deadline for Department of Revenue to approve Preliminary Tax Rolls.
AUGUST
- TRIM Notices are mailed to property owners or taxpayers of record. These notices include the deadlines for filing petitions to appeal preliminary assessments to Value Adjustment Boards. (Deadline are 25 calendar days from the mailing date of the Notice).
AUGUST/SEPTEMBER
- Deadlines for filing petitions to Value Adjustment Boards. The deadlines may not be extended. The dates may change from one year to the next, and differ between the counties, but within the month.
SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER
-Local governments to set millage rates. The rate of taxation set each year is applied retroactively to property values.
1 NOVEMBER
- Tax bills are mailed with discount periods for early payment owed during the current calendar year. Taxes are applied "in arrears" beginning on January 1st and ending December 31st.
31 DECEMBER
- Deadline for establishment of residency, used for Homestead Exemption applications which commence the next year.
